JEWEL’S ADVISE: “When you're feeling
your worst, that's when you get to know yourself the best. Pressure
reveals what you really believe. If you believe you are unqualified,
unworthy, too late, too old, too fat, too slow, not enough or not
ready...you're right. If you believe you are qualified, blessed, ready,
determined, loved, significant, talented and able to pass the test of
stress ... you're right. Whether you are in the unemployment line, the
court room, the hospital room or recovery ... don't give up. Your
turnaround and breakthrough will come. Do not drink from the cup of
discouragement and depression. Make up your mind not to let panic,
self-pity or bitterness steal your faith and determination to get
through your circumstances. Continue seeking help from those around you
who care and from your God who cares.
How are you today? The other morning I woke up with some pressing issues
on my mind and then... I read some of your e-mails. There were many full
of love and gratitude. My heart was stirred and tears of joy and sadness
flowed. Some are going through some tough times and some of you are
sharing your praise. As I read your inspiring stories of strength,
endurance and inspiration, I am reminded that I can’t and won’t complain
and that I am too blessed to be stressed. It is a choice to rejoice and
it's a choice to hold my head up high or hold it down. I believe the
enemy does not want our home, car, money, degree, status or diamonds.
The destroyer of life really desires our faith, joy, peace, praise and
worship, gratitude, perseverance and our destiny. Every moment...every
day...you and I can choose what we will allow to steal our peace of
mind. Every day "stuff" is happening all around us in our homes, job,
community, church and in the world news. The bitter and sweet, the good
and bad are happening all at the same time. It's just that some days the
bad stuff makes more noise. We are challenged on every side to stay in
the light. We are challenged to stay in peace instead of falling to
pieces. We are challenged to get up and be proactive instead of being
procrastinators, worriers and hopeless victims. We are reminded to count
our blessings and not our burdens. We are reminded to be compassionate
of others. We should know that if we worry...don't even pray. If we pray
and take action...don't worry. One cancels out the other. Whatever you
are going and growing through...don't give up. Something great is about
to happen. What a mighty God we serve! AMEN!
SANDY’S BLOG
– Well, here we are in the month of July already! What happened to
June? Does time fly when you are getting older or what? I am still in
shock about the death of
Michael Jackson. My children loved
them some Michael Jackson. Back in the days my son, Derek, entered (or
I entered him) into every Michael Jackson’s dance contest and he won
several. I need to go home and find his trophies! My first
Jackson Five concert was May 30, 1971 at the Myriad Convention
Center and again in 1972 and several times since. I was on the floor
with my little cousins and they screamed the entire concert. I was
suppose to marry Jackie, my sister Sheila was to marry Tito, Stephanie
was to marry Jermaine, and I was going to let my daughter, who was
barely one, marry Michael. When my daughter, Cassandra, was five years
old, I took her to the Jackson Five Concert at the
Myriad. We were close to the stage but Cassandra was too small to
really see. I let her stand in the chair but she still could not see.
We caught the attention of one of my neighbors and he said “Come with me
Cassandra”. He put her on his shoulder and carried her to the front of
the stage. Michael Jackson saw her and sat of the stage right in front
of her and sang “Ben”. Every time I think about the excitement in her
eyes, I cry. She was so proud and happy. That was the Michael Jackson
she remembered. In San Francisco, 1981, I took Derek and Cassandra to
The Jacksons Triumph Tour where he released his infamous “Thriller”.
Derek danced throughout the entire concert, about three hours, and I
fell asleep. Cassandra was nowhere to be found, I guess she and her
friends were in front of the stage and as she reminisced him singing
“Ben”. There was never a Jackson concert like the Triumph Tour and
there will never be another Michael Jackson! RIP Mike!
Classes at The Tree Lounge are so much fun. Everyone dances with
everyone whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced dancer. I
have students that are in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and with
different ethnic backgrounds. The beauty of my class is that we become
friends and share so much together. Stop in, join class or just check
us out. Remember, beginners begin at 7 pm! My class at the Tree Lounge
is so crowded that I am contemplating on teaching another day of the
week and you be the first to know! On Friday, my sister,
Stephanie, was finally through with her summer course at UCO and we
drove to Dallas. I got a room at the Embassy Suites by
Love Field for $45.00 on
priceline.com. The hotel
was fantastic. We arrived and happy hour had begun with free food and
free beverages! Yes, free beverages. I always try and get a room close
to the function I would be attending (The Mayor of Swing, Edward Smith’s
3rd Graduation) so I won’t have to drive very far
afterwards. Needless to say, I got so relaxed that I did not feel like
doing much of anything but I slept like a baby. The Embassy Suite had
three rooms plus all your everyday essentials. I did not have to spend
a penny while I was at the hotel. I got up Saturday morning, put on my
swimsuit and went to the Jacuzzi and then jumped in the pool to cool
off. Last, but best, I sat in the steam room for 15 minutes to clear of
my sinuses and it felt so good and relaxing. I noticed several people
having breakfast so I put on my coverall and joined them. By the way,
the breakfast was also free. I had a spinach omelet with everything you
can imagine on it, bacon, fried potatoes, fruit, and cranberry juice. I
took more fruit and yogurt to my room. I asked for a late checkout so I
could take another little nap and then I got all dolled up and headed
for the Sheraton Arlington (another one of my favorite hotels, $50 on
priceline.com). I checked in and watched Michael Jackson news for the
entire day. I arrived at The Arlington Event Center at 6:15 for a
meeting concerning the contest. The rest in history and the contest was
great! Dancers and judges from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Oklahoma,
Houston, Austin, and Killeen were in the house. The AEC was packed and
we danced until after 2 am. I would like to take this opportunity to
thank Derrick, RC Productions and Swingology for inviting me to be a
judge!
